What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)?
In the world of personal development, coaching, and self-improvement, you may have come across the term Neuro-linguistic Programming, or NLP. But what exactly is it, and how should we view it from a psychological perspective?
NLP help you to understand how your thoughts, language (self-talk) and behaviours are interlinked. It's used to reprogram negative thought patterns to achieve personal, professional or performance goals.
Essentially, NLP operates on the idea that our subjective experience is coded in our minds and that by changing the way we code it—through our thoughts and language—we can change our reality and our results.
A Psychological Perspective
The ideas within NLP, of changing our internal worlds to improve our external lives, are certainly appealing. They tap into a deep human desire for growth and self-mastery, a desire I see and honour in my clients every day. However, it is also important to understand the root cause of the psychological problem. This is why I offer Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) as an intervention.
RTT uses hypnosis to get to the root cause of the problem, reframe or re-evaluate it, and NLP to reprogram the mind with positive thought patterns to achieve the desired goal.
RTT is therefore a more comprehensive approach than NLP on its own. It integrates the core elements of a psychotherapeutic intervention - self-exploration and insight, and helps to reprogram the mind, in one powerful treatment.
